AmazCakes is..well.. Amazing

CHICAGO — I’ve been covering Chicago’s vibrant Black-owned business scene for years, but few stories are as sweet—and as inspiring—as that of Iesha Williams, the force behind Amaze Cakes on the South Side.

Iesha opened her bakery in 2015 at 5020 S. Ashland Ave., and quickly earned acclaim. As Fox 32 Chicago noted during a 2023 segment, “Now she’s a huge success and has catered many events.”

A separate appearance on Good Day Chicago in early 2025 praised her creations as “stunning,” spotlighting what one anchor called a “premier cakes” destination in Chicago. FOX 32 Chicago

This July, Iesha took her mission beyond her shop with a new digital product designed “for the bakers, the cake lovers, the dreamers.” It begins with a free whipped-buttercream icing recipe and upgrades to full cake recipes and step-by-step video tutorials. “Turn your oven into opportunity,” she says—no small task for anyone dreaming of moving from home-baker status to owning her own storefront, or even her own building.

Pulling back, Iesha’s journey reads like a recipe for empowerment: from launching a bakery to expanding into digital mentorship. Her online course invites hopeful entrepreneurs to “comment ‘cake’ below to join my waitlist.” She vows to help others go from “scared to sign a lease” to confident business ownership—all with a spatula in hand.

It’s worth noting that Amaze Cakes’ public debut at Taste of Black Chicago came in 2017—an early sign of how Iesha would grow into a celebrated voice in our community. That moment marked one of her bakery’s first large-scale showcases, and I was there watching folks line up for signature slices.

Her appearances on local broadcasts and at community festivals have given her national reach—yet she continues to center her work in love, service, and legacy. “I want people to know they don’t have to stay where they are,” she told me, channeling a truth many of us know: sometimes, the way forward starts with just one well-baked idea.

AmazCakes remains open Tuesday through Saturday. Now, with her digital product, Iesha is baking a new path—not just for herself, but for every cake-lover who dreams bigger.
